It is good to know that other people are also interested in exploring nature as a way to go out of the cave: "Capsula's cross-disciplinary expeditions, straddling the borderline between art and science, study and marvel at natural phenomena through personal experience." "Since Plato´s Allegory of the Cave we search for a way to unchain men that have only seen shadows and echoes and take them to the light, where they can se “the real thing”. Beside philosophy, some believe that one of men´s greatest value, creativity, could be a path to take men outside the cave. Itsuo Sakane says: “in such society as ours, in which one tends to be unable to distinguish between reality and artificial reality and ends up chasing daydream, the healing power of art is most effective.”1 Nevertheless, wouldn´t it be a paradox to think that art (not only by the opposition nature vs. culture, but also based on the etymological meaning of art, the manifestation of human activity, as in artificial vs. natural) could help experiencing nature more deeply?"

manifesto
Li -quid -
Geo - graphy for
agoraphobics:
Take this:
There is no frontiers for granted!
Space doesn´t fold where you say so.
We constructed maps to keep track of territory,
lines of power that were meant to be REALITY,
a continuum that falls out of its container.
Now, territory has moved somewhere else,
is the space between your thoughts and my thoughts,
The NETWORK,
and of course, we must keep track of this too.
gods, atoms, networks, vast territories, all the unseen.
Huge ideas kept into small powerful sketches.
We will rather built a map of questions that never contains itself.
An open source structure "meant for movement"
A liquid geography that continuously goes out of its container:
A MAP.
the medicine for agoraphobics.
Take that:
No standard views of those old drawn continents,
we are writing a new space

Janet Cardiff Forest Walk (audio walk)
JANET CARDIFF
Audio walk, 12 min.
Banff Centre for the Arts, Canadian Artist in Residence Program
I was doing a residency at the Banff Centre in Alberta, Canada, experimenting with some various technologies, and I created what became my first audio walk. It didn’t have very good instructions and the quality of my mixing was terrible since it was mixed on a 4-track cassette deck, but the work really inspired me and changed my thinking about art. Probably only 10 people heard it at the time, but it was the prototype for all the walks that followed. When I listen to it now, I can appreciate the freshness and looseness, even with all of the bad editing.
Janet Go towards the brownish green garbage can. Then there’s a trail off to your right. Take the trail, it’s overgrown a bit. There’s an eaten-out dead tree. Looks like ants.
sfx of footsteps then stopping then hand brushing tree bark. walking starts again.
Janet Walk up the path. I haven’t been in this forest for a long time ... it’s good to get away from the centre, from the building noises, to idyllic nature. Ok, there’s a fork in the path, take the trail to the right.
sfx of walking, stopping, bending down.
Janet There’s some paint on the stone, looks like … maybe its … no it is paint. I wonder what it’s doing there. Some artist painting the sunset I guess.
sfx of walking again, sfx crows loud, train horn in background.
Janet It’s so beautiful in the forest at night … it’s kind of spooky though.
Jvox prerecorded I just want to be with you.
Man’s voice It’s so beautiful in the forest at night ... it’s kind of spooky though.
Jvox We’ve had wonderful times.
Man’s voice It’s my fucked personality, blame it on me.
